Chania, is a mountain settlement of the prefecture of Magnesia. The village is built at an altitude of 1,190 meters on the slopes of Mount Pelion and constitutes the most highland settlement of the prefecture of Magnesia. It is located on the provincial road of Volos-Zagora, 26 km from Volos. The village owes its name to the old guesthouses (chania), which hosted those who traveled to the area.

At Chania operates the ski center of Pelion and due to this, the village attracts many visitors during winter. Several guest houses and taverns run in the settlement.

Portaria is a traditional settlement of the prefecture of Magnesia, built on the western slopes of Mount Pelion north of Volos city. It is the main village of the region, as it has grown greatly in the past and today still retains its population mainly thanks to the touristic business. A characteristic feature of Portaria is the large mansions of the Thessalian-Macedonian style with a roof of stone slabs. Most of them today are renovated and run as hostels.
